There is currently no Italian national scheme, but regional as well as individual city schemes.
There are various exemptions from the ZTL, but they all need a permit (means they are then registered in the white list) that has to be paid for!
- home care
- commercial garages
- car rental
- patients of hospital in ZTL
- taxi and hire service with driver
These vehicles can enter the white list for free:
- electric delivery vehicles
- ambulance, police, municipality, tow truck
- hotel guests
- vehicles going to public parking facilities
- people working in ZTL
- utility services
Loading and unloading is allowed with a proper permit at times that are stated on the different permits.
Electric vehicles for delivery can enter after they have registered on the 'white list' for free.
Local name for the scheme
Zona a Traffico Limitato (ZTL) or Limitazioni della circolazione, the general name for all access regulation schemes, also used for Low Emission Zones.
