The first step is to find out the emissions standard of the LEZ you wish to travel into, and of your vehicle.

Some LEZs allow you to meet this emissions standard by retrofitting your vehicle.

Some LEZs require you to register your vehicle, buy a sticker, pay a charge or otherwise register before you drive in the zone. You may need to prove you meet the required emissions standard when you register.

If you do not currently meet the standards required, then you need to do one or more of the following:

(a) Buy a newer vehicle
(b) Retrofit
(c) Reorganise your fleet or journey
(d) Check for Exemptions

If you travel to many cities in Europe, before you decide how you comply it is worth checking what emissions standards are required in the different LEZs, so that you choose the option which will allow you to enter the cities you need. Our emissions standard overview table may be helpful in this.
