Vehicles affected The LEZs currently apply to heavy-duty diesel-engined lorries over 3.5 tonnes Gross Vehicle Weight.

Need to Register? No registration needed for Dutch lorries.
Foreign Vehicles? Foreign vehicles will start to be enforced during 2010.
Retrofitting allowed? Yes
Retrofitting Summary Vehicles not meeting the emissions standards could be made to do so by modifying them to meet the relevant Euro standard for particular matter. Retrofitting can be done by fitting a diesel particular filter (DPF) to a vehicle with an earlier Euro standard. Dutch vehicles need to have a particulate trap certified by the Department of Road Transport (RDW) of the Netherlands. See also our retrofit page for further explanation about retrofitting.
Hours of operation Permanent, 365 days a year
Enforcement With cameras viewing number plates. Where cameras are not yet set up, manual enforcement will be used until the cameras are ready.
Penalty A 160 Euro fine, to which administration costs may be added.
National Scheme A National LEZ Covenant signed by Dutch government, municipalities and other stakeholders, whereby all Low Emissions Zones in the Netherlands apply the same Euro standards, as outlined above.
